I’ve come to appreciate furniture. A sign that I’m entering my mid-30s. Something says “complete man” about building furniture. I’m not talking about IKEA instructions, I’m talking about taking things that aren’t furniture and making them into furniture.
I started with a couple of very cheap bamboo cutting boards ($12 each) and some ebay hairpin legs ($33 for 4 legs). I added some #8 x 1/2in screws ($4), polyurethane ($10), gray spray paint ($3), and stain (leftover from another project). Ultimately, each table cost about $54.
I painted the legs gray to match the room and stained/lightly polyurethaned the boards.
I marked and pre-drilled the holes for the screws. I marked the drill bit so that I didn’t drill all the way through.
Screwed the legs in with the #8 screws and voila. Two tables. Time taken? About 3 hours, sprinkled all weekend. Total cost ~$108 for two tables.
I figure that if I wrote Crate & Barrel on them, they’d be $285 each.

I’ve got the same legs on my record cabinet, unfortunately for me, the rest of it is cheap particle board. But, hey, if it’s good enough for major structural parts of $2 million Toll Bros. mansions , its good enough to hold a 40 year old Sony record player and my dad’s old Sgt Barry Sadler album.

And they’re convenient for couchside chopping! Good stuff. I got those same legs when I built my daughter a nightstand.

I got into a furniture building kick a few years back....I want to go more but 1. My skills have improved and I would like a few more tools that I don’t have room for and 2. The new projects will be bigger and I want to use nicer wood, plus the current space issue.
To date I have built a pair of night stands, a head board, a hope chest, entrance table, built-ins by the fireplace, and a kitchen island. Now my wife wants deck furniture....and a kitchen table

Looks nice and good idea. I saw a big butcher block top at home depot on clearance the other day. Like 5 by 3 for 100. I was wondering if it would make a good camp trailer table but it was too heavy though I realized I have just the spot for it
